Khodorkovsky Russia Must Face Up To Alternative Energy
In an interview with Nefte Compass, Mikhail Khodorkovsky said that Russia has yet to find its place in the future world of energy as more alternative fuel sources come into play.
Khodorkovsky said that although Russia is similar to Canada, it is more likely that Russia will take on a role similar to Germany. While he admired Germany's "integrated approach...the development of technologies for energy conservation and the use of new sources of energy," he warned that "Russia could wind up like Namibia" if it continues to rely on raw materials and South Korean-style chaebol conglomerates.
Should he be released from prison, Khodorkovsky said he sees a future for himself working in alternative energy: "Ultimately, new forms of energy will become a technological and economic reality...This will result in fundamental changes across the globe, perhaps even preserving human civilization."
Khodorkovsky said that Russia needs to recognize that the landscape is changing and that alternative energy has a major role to play, he said: "There is no question that a sociopolitical decision to break free from energy dependence has been."
